The Wedding of Dom & James

Dom & James held their wedding reception in Ballroom at Victoria Park. Recently the pair sat down to discuss their big day with the Victoria Park team.

Tell us about your journey together, from how you met, to what the proposal was like!

We met at The Fox in South Bank, I was out celebrating buying my own apartment and he was out with some friends. We started talking, and as they say, the rest is history!
For the proposal, he had secretly written down that one day I told him I would love to go horseback riding on the beach as it looked so romantic in the movies. He booked us a weekend away in Noosa and surprised me with a horseback ride on the beach. As horse riding was coming to an end, there was a beautiful beach picnic set up. We walked to the beach picnic and James got down on one knee and popped the question!

What (besides the obvious ‘I do’) was your favourite part of your wedding?

Our choreographed dance was one of my absolute favourite moments from the night. We hadn’t told anyone we were doing it, and we went straight into the dance once we were announced into the reception room. The surprise factor from our guests as well as having something that was just our own, it was priceless.

Tell us about your decorations and wedding styling – did you incorporate anything new / a theme? What did you choose for your wedding entertainment and guest favors?

Our wedding styling was chosen after we got to the Beautiful Weddings showroom. The only idea we had was gold and emerald green for our bridesmaid dresses. The rest we worked through with the wonderful Nicole at Beautiful Weddings. We wanted something that our guests could enjoy eating and take home, so we got cookies made with our names and date of the wedding. We also had Eugiene Zhan draw illustrations for our guests so that was a huge hit for guests to take home. We have received photos of their framed illustrations which has been lovely to see.

What’s the best piece of advice you can give other brides to be?

I think you have to go into the planning with a clear idea of what is important to you that you need to have the last say for, and what you are willing to let go. In the end, it is a huge day for your families too, and for me, I wanted my mum and my mother-in-law involved, and they had things that meant a lot to them. Some things I really wasn’t stressed about and was happy for them to make some decisions. It meant a lot to me to see them happy and be involved.

Would you recommend Victoria Park to other people getting married?

Absolutely! And I already have, many times. From the start, everyone we have dealt with has been professional and lovely, understanding when plans changed and really helped us on the journey. We could not have asked for more. Thank you.
