With a history as rich and colourful as Brisbane’s, the land upon which Victoria Park Golf Complex sits has been a quarry; a rifle range and an encampment for World War Two American troops. In 1931 the land was repurposed and a nine-hole municipal golf course and clubhouse was opened by the Brisbane City Council.
In 1999, family members Siobhan Bickle, Louis Bickle and Mary Bickle, together with Adam Flaskas, successfully tendered to the Brisbane City Council to operate Victoria Park Clubhouse and develop new facilities. Over the years the complex has been redeveloped in partnership with the Brisbane City Council to create a thriving inner city destination, just 2 kilometres from Brisbane City. A long term lease arrangement exists with Brisbane City Council for the operation of the site and the strong relationships that exist with Council is testament to our business philosophy.
Since taking over the business, the complex has been converted into a multi-use venue with a food and beverage operation with more than 500,000 patrons visiting the complex for leisure, hospitality and events each year. From its conception of 3 employees, Victoria Park now employs 180 full time and casual staff and is one of Brisbane’s busiest function & lifestyle venues.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Victoria Park are committed to making a difference to the community in which we live and work, as such we have adopted a number of Corporate Social Responsibility actions including:
• Sourcing fresh local produce with short, low carbon producing transport. We are committed to supporting local suppliers, reinvesting in the local Brisbane economy.
• Ensuring our cleaning products are recycled and are made from a high percentage of recycled products. We also have an OZ Tank on-site, which helps us to minimise the use of chemicals.
• Announcing an Annual Charity Partner who we support on a larger scale, raising funds to assist them to achieve their important mission.
• Instigating a donations program, supporting hundreds of charitable organisations each annum by providing on-site experiences for use in raffles and at fundraising events.
• Implementing an energy saving policy to contribute to reducing greenhouse gases. This includes the introduction of ‘shut down’ policy for equipment and lighting not in use throughout the complex.
