Nicole was living in a share house when she met Wes, her house mate’s best friend. Wes and Nicole met on Valentine’s day, the very day Nicole moved into her new house….

What was the proposal like?
It was on our annual family holiday to Ballina and Wes took me out to dinner. Afterwards we took a walk on the beach at sun set. We walked out onto the rock wall watching the sun go down with waves splashing on our feet, then Wes proposed. I said yes of course. It was a perfect moment for us.
What was the location of you ceremony and reception?
The Victoria Park Garden Marquee for both ceremony and reception.
What (besides the obvious ‘I do’ was your favourite part of your wedding?
Spending our day with all of our closest friends and family. I highly recommend the extra money for the golf carts too! Was so much fun with our bridal party.
Why would you recommend Victoria Park to other people getting married?
The staff and location cannot be faulted. Our event planner was so helpful all the time. She really listened to all of our requests and went over and above to make it happen. You need this from a venue. The grounds are beautiful and would be very hard NOT to get amazing photos, and at night time our marquee was stunning!
Julie and Jake met out one night in Sydney watching a Sydney Swans game 6 years ago, and the rest as they say is history, but it wasn’t without its ups and downs….
Tell us about how you met?
When we met Jake was a rookie at the Sydney Swans, however 2 years into our relationship he sustained a back injury which, after a frustrating few months of x-rays/doctor visits/injections, eventually needed surgery. The surgery meant Jake could no longer play football. The career change saw Jake move back to his hometown of Brisbane whilst I stayed in Sydney, with both of us moving in with our parents while Jake decided what was next for him.
After several months of long-distance I made the move from Sydney to Brisbane. 10 months after my move, Jake was offered a role with Etihad, based in Abu Dhabi!
As Jake moved to Abu Dhabi to set up our life in the UAE, I returned to Sydney once more whilst looking for work in Abu Dhabi. More long-distance! Following nearly a year living apart, with only a visit every few months, I made the move to Abu Dhabi. Fast forward a few months and I had a beautiful ring on my finger!
What was the proposal like?
I proposed on Julia’s birthday. Initially I had planned to pop the question whilst jet skiing around Abu Dhabi islands at sunset. Unfortunately a huge sandstorm came around that weekend so that was out. Instead I arranged for Julia to get a birthday massage and changed the original jetski plan to dinner at Emirates Palace (a 7-star luxury hotel). After delicious Italian food and wine, Julia got the shock of her life when a golden platter came out containing the ring instead of dessert.
What was the location of you ceremony and reception?
The Victoria Park Ballroom
Why would you recommend Victoria Park to other people getting married?
Victoria Park were really helpful and responsive from the beginning. They had experience with weddings and were also able to arrange music, photobooth, styling etc which made a huge difference. It was all very easy. Of course the clincher was the venue itself – marquee overlooking the golf greenery for the ceremony and beautiful ballroom with chandeliers for the reception.
Seasoned Victoria Park golf coach Jim Barden may be one to fly under the radar but his students certainly do not. Andrew Dodt (pictured above) and Adam Blyth (pictured below) have both experienced a great season in 2016 with success on the Australasian Tour. Andrew and Adam have been coached by Jim for 12 and 15 years respectively and not only does Jim travel all over the world to watch them play but they both always look to fit in a lesson at the Victoria Park Golf Learning Centre when they’re back in Brisbane.
Andrew recently enjoyed success with a 2nd place finish at the 2016 Australian PGA Championship and tied third the week following at he Hong Kong Open. Andrew is also a two-time European Tour winner and is currently ranked 215th in the world. He currently sits 2nd in the European Tour’s Race To Dubai.
Adam had a fantastic year with two 1st place finishes; the South Pacific Open Championship in New Caledonia and the New South Wales Open. He now sits at 276th in the world rankings and was recently awarded the 2016 ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia player of the year.
With such a strong year for both players Jim was proud to see his players’ finish 4th and 6th respectively on the 2016 ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit. You can see both players statistics here – https://www.pga.org.au/tourns/pga-tour/order-of-merit
No stranger to success, Jim has previously been awarded QLD PGA Teaching Professional of the year and is a former coach for the Queensland Academy of Sport. Jim coaches all skills levels of golfers and is available for lessons in the Golf Learning Centre Tuesday – Sunday. Chances are you’ve been dreaming of your wedding for a while now but when it comes to the big day it can be stressful to achieve that dream. Wedding stylists are like a bride’s unofficial maid of honour – happy to listen, full of suggestions and a whizz at the organisation. Victoria Park have our own experienced wedding stylists on staff who know how to create a design concept to fit your personal style and taste. Find out what you need to ask your wedding stylist below.
WHAT ARE THE THREE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO ASK YOUR WEDDING STYLIST?
It is important to ask your wedding stylist what exactly is included in your package. Victoria Park offers a very inclusive package, providing table linen, tealight candles, name cards, a mirror seating list, table numbers votives and signature centrepieces – just to list a few. Make sure you ask your wedding stylist what items they need to arrange for you so it is one less thing for you to worry about for the big day.
It is also a very good idea to ask your wedding stylist what works well in your chosen ceremony or reception room. As we have seen many different types of theming and styling in all of our 5 beautiful spaces, we can recommend styles that work very well with the aesthetics of the room – what lighting works, colours, designs, layouts, etc.
On that note, you should also ask your wedding stylist what doesn’t work in the space. Don’t forget to check if there are any restrictions on styling or theming in the room before you begin planning.
WHAT IS A WEDDING STYLIST’S JOB IN THE LEAD UP TO THE WEDDING?
At Victoria Park, we ensure all of the styling and entertainment is locked in and confirmed, that delivery and bump in times are communicated and coordinated with suppliers, taking care of payments and invoicing for suppliers booked through us, and making sure everything is perfect and ready to go on the day.
WHAT SHOULD COUPLES LOOK FOR IN A WEDDING STYLIST?
A wedding stylist should listen to what you want and what you envision for your special day. They should guide you, with the ultimate goal of creating your dream day. It’s crucial that your wedding stylist is flexible and can tailor options to suit you, as every couple is different.
IDEALLY, HOW SOON SHOULD COUPLES CONSULT A WEDDING STYLIST BEFORE THEIR MARRIAGE?
Around four to six months out is a very good time to start thinking about ideas and styling for your wedding. As we find trends do change, we do not recommend locking items in too much earlier than this, but around that four to six month out mark is a great time to start. We would recommend having your styling and theming locked in and confirmed around two months before the wedding.
WHAT SPECIAL SERVICES DOES VICTORIA PARK ORGANISE FOR WEDDINGS?
Victoria Park can arrange many aspects of your special day all in the one place. We can help with everything from entertainment, centrepieces, table décor, bridal backdrops, lighting, floral bouquets and even to have your names up in lights with fireworks synchronised to your favourite songs. Victoria Park’s styling team can tailor and source items to suit, so whatever it is that you envision for your special day, we can do our best to arrange it for you.

Born and raised in Brisbane, Scott first hit the chef scene in the Moreton Bay region. Right from the beginning of his career Scott was exposed to the fantastic produce available in South East Queensland by supporting local farmers.
Having spent time immersing himself in the hospitality industry in Brisbane and Sydney, Scott then set off across the world. First stop was Hong Kong where he worked in some of the biggest catering companies, noting this as one of the highlights of his career. He then spent many years in the fine dining scene of Germany, enjoying an occasional trek across Europe to enjoy local cuisine and curate inspiration.
Returning to his Brisbane roots, Scott aims to continue with Victoria Park’s fresh, local food philosophy and share his worldly knowledge with the team.
Here’s what Scott had to say when we sat down with him recently…
Where do you like to draw inspiration from?
I frequently dine at local restaurants and food venues, finding that the best place to draw inspiration from is my own dining experiences.
What’s your favourite dish from the new menu at the Bistro?
My crab linguini is a dish I am very passionate about. It is such a unique dish so suited to the Brisbane lifestyle. So light but packed full of flavour.
What’s the one thing you can’t go without in the kitchen?
Fresh local produce is the cornerstone of my kitchen, and it’s a great way to support local businesses.
What’s your go to dish when cooking at home?
I am very grateful to have spare time with family and friends. I love cooking the whole 3 course journey, and it must be with a great bottle of red.
What’s one food that you always crave?
Tom Yum Soup. I love the freshness, alongside the spicy and sour hit you get from the soup.
Victoria Park’s Bistro is reopening from 19th June for breakfast and lunch, Wednesday – Sunday.
