The Wedding of Kate and Brendan

Kate and Brendan married on a sunny April afternoon in the Garden Marquee room at Victoria Park. Recently Kate sat down to discuss their big day with the Victoria Park team.

Tell us about your journey together, from how you met to the proposal.

We met two years ago, and we were both completely not ready for it! We fell pretty hard and fast for each other and couldn’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together. Brendan proposed in Bali at the Rock Bar. It was amazing. When Brendan proposed in Bali, he was not allowed to take the bag into the Rock Bar with us. So he got really nervous and took the engagement ring out and made me put it in my handbag.

I watched my handbag for 2 hours until the sun was about to set – I thought to myself ‘this guy is obviously waiting for sunset to propose’; so I thought I would assist (as I do) and I went to the bathroom so he could get the ring ready for me. At that stage I thought ‘what if he doesn’t click on to what I’ve done; what if he doesn’t get the ring out’. Anyway, he got the ring out and put it on his little finger – in plain sight for me. He fumbled around for about 30 seconds with some words that I can’t remember (and neither can he); we both laughed (him nervously) and I said yes!

What (besides the obvious ‘I do’) was your favourite part of your wedding?

Without a doubt it would have to be when the bridal party went away to do the location pictures. We had such a fantastic time in the golf buggies. It was a great time to relax after the vows and spend some time with the bridal party. Being around our friends during this time was amazing. We laughed so much and had such a fun time taking the photos.

Tell us about your wedding styling and entertainment.

I styled the wedding myself. I didn’t want anything too ‘out there’ and wanted the focus to be on us. I went with a rustic chic look, where the colours were white, gold and then the bright flowers. The flowers were our standout piece and I am so glad we spent extra money for this piece as it was just perfect! And they look absolutely beautiful in our wedding photos. We had Steven Childs as our music for the ceremony and cocktail hour – guests couldn’t comment more on how great he was and the extensive song library he has. We also had an open photo booth and flower wall which complimented each other perfectly. Our wedding favors were some mints, they had a little sticker on the front that said ‘Mint to be’.

What’s the best piece of advice you can give other brides to be?

Plan well before the day so you can relax, enjoy and take in your wedding day. I did not have any stresses on the day as I had planned everything to a t. I also had great support from Sam at Victoria Park, I knew she knew what she was doing and it was perfect!

Would you recommend Victoria Park to other people getting married?

Definitely!!! I already have! The planning process was so easy and transparent. I knew exactly what was going on, and the cost of everything. I loved working with Sam! She is amazing. Especially on the wedding day, having her there before I walked down the isle was fantastic, giving me last minute tips on where to hold my flowers and what to do if I started to tear up – it was much appreciated!
